Early Life and Career

Gareth Southgate was born on September 3, 1970, in Watford, England. He began his football career as a player with Crystal Palace in 1988. He went on to represent several clubs during his playing days, including Southampton, Aston Villa, and Middlesbrough.

International Career

Southgate made his England debut in 1995 and went on to earn 57 caps for his country. He was a member of the England team that reached the semifinals of the 1996 European Championships.

Managerial Career

After retiring from playing, Southgate turned to coaching. He managed Middlesbrough from 2006 to 2009 and led the team to the UEFA Cup final in 2006.

In November 2016, Southgate was appointed as England's interim manager following the departure of Sam Allardyce. He was given the permanent role in April 2017.

Achievements as England Manager

Under Southgate's leadership, England reached the semifinals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the team's best performance in a World Cup since 1990. He also guided England to a third-place finish in the 2019 UEFA Nations League and a runner-up finish in the 2020 European Championships.

Southgate's contract with England runs until 2024. He will be looking to guide the team to a first major trophy since 1966 when they host the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
