Early life and playing career

Gareth Southgate was born on 3 September 1970 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England. He began his football career as a trainee with Crystal Palace, making his professional debut for the club in 1988. He went on to play for a number of other clubs, including Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, and Southampton, before retiring from playing in 2006.

Management career

Southgate began his management career with Middlesbrough in 2006. He led the club to promotion to the Premier League in 2009, and they reached the final of the UEFA Cup in 2006. In 2013, Southgate was appointed manager of the England Under-21 team. He led the team to victory in the Toulon Tournament in 2016, and they reached the semi-finals of the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

In 2016, Southgate was appointed manager of the England national team. He led the team to the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and they reached the final of the 2020 UEFA European Championship.

Personal life

Southgate is married to Alison and they have two children, Mia and Flynn. He is a keen golfer and has represented England in the Celebrity Cup.
